The following chart represents one of the two schemas Joyce used to describe the structures of Ulysses. It is important to note that both of these shemas -- which closely resemble one another, aside from some minor but interesting disparities -- were drafted at a late stage in the writing of Ulysses. The vast bulk of the text preceded the schemas, and the schemas should not, therefore, be regarded as some species of "blueprint" for Ulysses.

The schema reproduced below first appeared in 1921 and was later printed in Stuart Gilbert's James Joyce's "Ulysses" in 1930.
