The plane that hit the Empire State Bldg was a B-25 Mitchell bomber. It
was lost in fog and hit the building. Basically, it hit a Catholic
charities office and dropped a load of flaming gas down an elevator shaft.
Quite a mess. You can still see the patched spot on the exterior of the
bldg. It's on the 79th floor on the north side of the building. The crash
killed 13 people--3 in the plane and 10 in the building. The pilot's name
was William Smith.
